What We Do
We Are an Integrated Distribution Partner
At BTI, being an Integrated Distribution Partner means taking responsibility for the entire chain of value from sourcing and technical validation, through planning, stock holding, and quality assurance, to delivery at the point of use.
We work alongside our customers in the way that best supports their operations. For some, this means managing the full supply chain. For others, it means strengthening specific parts of the value chain where additional expertise, capability, or support is required.
At BTI, integrated distribution means taking responsibility for outcomes and ensuring every part of the supply chain works together to support reliable production.
Integrated distribution at BTI brings together two interconnected strengths:
Operational supply excellence – securing quality products, holding inventory, ensuring availability, and maintaining continuity.
Strategic value unlocking – applying engineering expertise, solutioneering, forecasting, and optimisation across your value chain.
Together, these enable us to deliver on our promise: Confidence of Supply. Peace of Mind. Always.
Our Integrated Distribution Offering
Integrated Distribution at BTI is powered by a set of core service capabilities that work together to deliver security of supply, confidence, and peace of mind – across automotive, mining, manufacturing, renewable energy, aftermarket, and infrastructure sectors.
Solutioneering
Our discovery-led approach to diagnosing challenges accurately and uncovering the smartest way forward.
We dig deeper, ask better questions, and develop solutions that deliver long-term performance and value – whether that means keeping factories running, projects moving, or supply chains performing consistently.
Our solutioneering capability extends across every facet of the supply chain. The solution we identify may be a product, a specification refinement, a sourcing strategy, a packaging or bin-size adjustment, a forecasting intervention, or a broader value-chain optimisation – whatever creates the greatest impact without disrupting your operations.
We make your problem our problem and work with urgency and intent to solve it.
Engineering & Technical Design
We blend engineering expertise with real-world industry understanding – refining specifications, validating tolerances, improving application suitability, and ensuring every component is fit for purpose.
Our engineering and technical support includes:
- Close technical engagement with manufacturers
- Visual, mechanical, functional, and dimensional inspection
- Drawing interpretation, tooling design, and documentation
- Full document control for traceability and compliance
- Root-cause analysis and corrective action
- Product and application reviews
- Fit-for-purpose component engineering
From concept through to production, we support multiple sectors with solutions that reduce risk, improve performance, and prevent line-stopping failures.
Clearing & Forwarding
We manage the compliant and efficient movement of goods across borders, ensuring imported components flow smoothly into South Africa.
Our clearing and forwarding support include:
- Customs clearing for road, sea, and air freight
- Tariff classification and valuation support
- Permit handling and regulatory compliance
- Customs documentation and acquittals
- Proactive management of customs stops
- Coordination with logistics partners for international cargo movement
This ensures multi-country sourced goods arrive on time, compliant, and visible within the supply chain.
Quality Assurance
Quality is non-negotiable.
Every component is verified:
- at the source in our partner factories
- through our on-the-ground team in China
- again upon arrival in South Africa
We check compliance against:
- international standards
- client specifications
- BTI’s internal quality benchmarks
Quality activities include:
- Precision manufacturing oversight
- PPAP approvals
- Capability studies
- Supplier accreditation audits
- Independent accredited laboratory testing
- Comprehensive supplier gap analyses and follow-up audits
BT Industries is certified to SABS ISO 9001:2015.
This rigorous ecosystem applies across all sectors – including solar, where components must meet stringent safety, durability, and environmental standards.
Traceability
End-to-end traceability gives full visibility into:
- Materials and origins
- Manufacturing batches
- Compliance certifications
- Inspection records
- Delivery pathways
Our traceability systems:
- Reduce operational risk
- Enhance quality control
- Improve downstream planning
- Strengthen compliance across industries
This is especially critical in regulated sectors such as mining, automotive, and renewable energy.
Strategic Sourcing & Procurement
We source globally across multiple countries, evaluating factory capability, negotiating with clarity, securing competitive pricing, and matching each requirement to the right manufacturing partner.
Our sourcing capabilities include:
- Wide global network of approved suppliers
- In-depth capability and gap assessments
- Commercial negotiation and cost optimisation
- Flexible packaging, lot sizing, and decanting aligned to customer demand
- Tailored sourcing aligned to client specifications
Rather than forcing customers to accept fixed quantities or supplier constraints, we adapt sourcing and supply structures to suit operational reality.
Planning & Forecasting
This is where BTI fundamentally reduces risk for our customers.
We plan ahead – and we hold the stock.
Instead of customers carrying one to three months of inventory on their balance sheet, BTI absorbs the stock-holding responsibility. We carry the pipeline inventory, manage safety stock, and take accountability for availability.
This means:
- Inventory is taken off the customer’s books
- Carrying costs and obsolescence risk are reduced
- Stock losses and write-offs are managed by BTI
- OTIF responsibility sits with us once demand is placed
Our forecasting combines customer data with applied logic and cross-sector insight. By servicing multiple customers within the same sector, we identify trends, anomalies, and shifts early – enabling proactive intervention rather than reactive firefighting.
Our warehousing and distribution footprint includes:
- Johannesburg
- Port Elizabeth
- Durban
With capabilities including:
- Bonded and non-bonded storage
- Safety stock and pipeline management
- Quantity picking and draw-down supply
- Kitting and batch packing
- Road, sea, and air freight coordination
Logistics Solutions
We coordinate the movement of goods from the production base to the point of use — selecting the right routes, timeframes, and delivery pathways to ensure efficiency and dependability.
Our logistics support enables:
- Multi-country sourcing
- Time-critical supply
- Complex import pathways
- Renewable energy project timelines
- OEM and after-market distribution
Value Chain Solutions
We look beyond immediate supply needs to optimise the broader value chain – improving performance, reducing cost, and strengthening resilience.
Our value-chain support includes:
- Raw material sourcing and management
- Manufacturing process coordination
- Finishing and surface protection oversight
- MOQ management and supply flexibility
- Safety stock provisioning aligned to demand patterns
These capabilities support established sectors such as automotive and mining, while enabling growth in renewable energy and after-market environments.
